  1. I've been using Itunes but am frustrated by its limitations. Is there a website comparable to Imgburn for Audio disks? Also is there a preferred media for Audio disks such as Verbatim? Thanks in advance.
  2. Finally prevailed with Dell. They sent me a Phillips 8801 made by BenQ. So far its working fine. Thanks again for all the help.
  3. Thanks Fordman and Blutach. Wound up using an external hard drive which worked fine.
  4. I am trying to back up my hard drive because Dell is insisting I do this "full system restore" before they will replace my burner. I have files on my hard drive I am trying to save. I have a lap top running on XP hooked up to my desk top with a network cable. Network cable enters the desk top at the port for the internet connection. After this I do not know what to do. The two computers do not seem to recognize each other. The desk top does not indicate the lap top as a place to send files to. My thanks in advance for any help you could give me.
  5. We are talking about different things. I probably used the wrong terminology. By "full system restore" I do not mean the "going back in time restore". My system did not come with any CDs. Somehow they have secreted the operating software to an untouchable spot on the hard drive. When they do the "full systme restore" everything currently on the hard drive is erased save for this originating spot on the hard drive which contains the software the computer was delivered with. Once done all is new. A new beginning.
  6. Thanks Defenestration and Blutach. Not sure you are right Blutach. Did a full system restore about a month ago. When trying to rid myself of Roxio I deleted my DVD player drrive. The restore wiped out everything. It was as if the computer was new again and all those programs had to be configured anew. I am going to try to back up my hard drive with a laptop. I may only be able to get on with Windows 2000. Not sure if this will work.
  7. Just spent another long session with a Dell technician. They run a diagnostic test on the burner and it turns out fine. They then say that my problem can not be the burner because of the results of this test and want to do a full system restore. I can not do a full system restore because there are all sorts of things on my hard drive I can not back up because the burner does not work. Dell says hire a technician to back up the hard drive and then do the full system restore. We even tried to burn a DVD using IMGBURN. It failed as usual after 10%.
  8. Just spent a long session with Dell on the phone. Did the E113 Firmware download and many other things. Never could get the burner to play a DVD. It would burn a small data file. Never did try to get it to burn a video. At the end of the session the guy started to talk about how it is forbidden to copy copy-protected DVDs, my DVD burner worked because it could copy a small data file and I had a DVD player to play DVDs: so I really didn't have a problem. I told him I wanted to copy videos that were not copy-protected and he seemed to think such things did not exist. He would not replace the drive. He suggested we do a full system restore instead. I did not want to lose my data, so we did not proceed. I guess I will back everything up and do the restore. Funny thing about Dell. They sell the DVD burner but do not provide software to make use of it. As far as I can tell it is not possible to burn from file with the Roxio software that comes with the computer.
  9. Ifcrule1972 I have been remiss in not thanking you for the references pertaining to my 4164B which truly is a piece of junk. I soldiered on with it since your post but now it appears to have finally given up the ghost. Last night I spent a great deal of time with Dell getting them to replace a faulty monitor. Now I will have to go back to the well once more. Many thanks.
  10. Same heartbreaking results at the speeds you suggested. I think I will give Dell a call and see what they have to say. Thanks.
