so, i take it you don't know what the correct region is ?

i have a laptop i am going to sell in a country with PAL, so before i make the sale, which region should i select in imgburn, west europe or east ? the country is Greece. they use PAL.

so if the region code is changed, a PAL disc cannot be played on a laptop sold in the US ?

in Drive->Regional Codes they aren't listed by number. which one is PAL ? in specific: Europe ...

Maybe you need to change something in BIOS for the SSD, or even require a new version of BIOS that handle SSD correctly. Chipset/storage might need new drivers too. Search those updates at HP download site for your specific model, don't rely just on what's in 'swsetup', maybe you will find some updates that will fix the SSD instalation for you. I don't think you need to mess with the booktype, ImgBurn will take care if the drive can do it. SSD is an option from the factory for this laptop, so i figured nothing of just swapping out. BIOS is simplified, not power-user oriented, so the hardware swap is probably transparent.

well, as it turns out, defective drive... i had it on my mind to drop into the city today to exchange the laptop due to a dead pixel. as it turns out, with 3 hours left before the store closes, my drive no longer recognized anything i inserted. spinned up fine, but nothing in windows. so i packed it up real quick, headed out there and exchanged the machine. got home, popped my SSD back in, started up, tested a movie out, and completed fine. so i'm good i think. although this whole fiasco caused me to do some reading thru some posts....according to lightning, all laptop opticals are crap. i was thinking of going forward with a swap to a BD burner because i need one. but the only one i can readily get my hands on is the panny UJ-235A. honestly, although many over @ slysoft forums trashed matshita & panny drives, i rarely had a problem with my tray load UJ-220 in the dell.

do i need to configure the drive properly in imgburn ? i was reading another thread about book types: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=15164 the drive is a TS-TB23L. google pulls it up as a toshiba/samsung. maybe the drive needs configuration ... ? i can grab and post any other log needed, just let me know which

You restored from the Recovery Partition, did you restore to an earlyer stage with System Restore or reinstalled from scratch? How was the first time, it came installed or you did the installation. You may missed the chipset/storage drivers. How is looking now a log, you have more speeds available? here is a somewhat chronicled account of the machine history: it came with 2 320GB hdds. i sucessfully burned the recovery dvds (4.7GB x5). i backed up my windows7 activation key and made a windows7 install disc using a microsoft iso, then bought an SSD, replaced the hdd that windows was installed on with it. after installing windows on the ssd, i used a folder that was on the machine called 'swsetup' to install drivers & software that originally came with it. i installed all the drivers in the driver folder. then also installed some additional software such as 'essential system updates for windows 7', hp protectsmart (hard drive drop protection), java, etc. when i recovered the system, i did it on the original 320GB, because i wanted to preserve my install on the SSD. so far, the original configuration (320GB) was able to burn a full 8GB movie with imgburn (with anydvd turned off), but with the SSD installation, i could not. i tried using windows7 to burn a 4.7GB data disc of files (with the SSD installation), and it worked fine. i need to go buy more DL discs today, and maybe try a different movie to see if it will burn. so far, this looks to be a software issue. but it may also be a movie iso issue. in the past i've only gotten errors like this a small amount of times with certain movies. not sure if the hardware may conflict or restrict read/write, i don't have experience with HP's drives. i know i've used the UJ-220 to sucessfully make cd's, dvd's, blu-rays (SL and DL) on a dell laptop without problems. i use the latest imgburn and the latest anydvdhd.

It is literaly written on it rewritable or you got fooled by DVD+RW Alliance logo? http://www.dvdrw.com/ Even it says 2.4x on disc your drive can only burn it at 3x, 4x as it reports it. the rewritable part i was oblivious about. but for more than a year i've been using these same discs and never had a problem. anyway, i tried factory restoring my machine and it worked, so something was wrong with missing software or something else i didn't install.

thanks for the reply lightning .... i looked at the disc and it says 2.4x on it, its a rewritable. but i never worried about setting the speed before and hardly had any issues. i ask because this is a new computer, so if the drive turns out to be defective, i have an opportunity to return it to the store and get another one. can't pinpoint the issue yet, but i will try 2x speed and see what happens. i've thrown out 4 discs already, hope it works.

thanks ... wouldn't imgburn auto-select the optimal speed for the media ? how about increasing buffer size ? there might be something wrong with the drive, else this is a software problem ...

hello, new to this forum... i've been using imgburn for a few years without issue to make images, as well as make some single-layer and double-layer DVD's recently bought a new laptop (hp envy 17) and i get errors when burning dvd discs. when imgburn starts i get a warning in the log window: W 11:11:17 Drive Z:\ (FAT) might not support single files > 4 GB in size. don't quite understand this because my optical drive is not assigned as Z:... can anyone help ?
