Kev, Thanks for the suggestion. I hate to think that I need a new drive (this one ain't that old). But if this continues I know I will get another. I just feel the need to understand how the drive can hit max speed with cd-r's and a different application, and has no problem with shrunken files on a single layer media using dvdshrink and another writing application. This may be beating a dead horse, but obviously I don't want to dish out greenbacks for a drive if I don't truly need one. I honestly appreciate all the feedback, and I know many here know much more about this than I do. And I don't want to sound like I'm not listening, it just seems strange is all.

Thanks for the advice once again. I tried it again with one of the crappy riteks in order to keep from making such expensive coasters with the Verbatims. This is the log. The disc did write...with the problems seen in the log. And verify of course did not complete because of the failed sectors (I assume). It's not exactly a coaster..but it's still pretty worthless on anything second layer. What am I doing wrong? I have the right media, I know the drive works, I haven't changed any ImgBurn settings. shamus, Thanks for the advice, I'll update the drivers. And apparently look for a new drive. Any recommendations (internal)? But please explain if you can, how the drive can perform normally with cd-r's (at max burn speed), and non-dl dvdshrink burns. Thanks for any help or advice. Thanks for the info. I knew the riteks were crappy, but hey it was worth a shot since others have worked. I guess it's possible I got a bed batch of 'em too since this only started happening with a new pack of 'em I bought. And on the ram side, thanks I have 2gb. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Everything was working fine and now...I get this (log to follow) but I know my burner (hp dvd writer 840b) is working because it still burns images from DvDShrink and all the CD-R's I throw at it.
