    Excellent suggestion again thanks

finalise the disc failed - why?

But then the next 2 burns failed, even though I cleaned the head again. So at least I know it is possible to burn DL DVDs with the sioftware and hardware that I have got , .... just not a very clever thing to do! Again thanks to all who tried to help. I think I'll get some editing software and see about splitting the DVDs up! Seasons Greetings

finalise the disc failed - why?

It worked ....!!! A £1.99 dvd cleaner from Aldi, which included what they called music! ... and now I've managed to burn a DL DVD. Execllent. many thanks to all who helped with this problem Ed

finalise the disc failed - why?

Thanks Will try but as burning single layer DVDs and CDs has been really smooth ther has been no problem I am not too hopeful.

finalise the disc failed - why?

Well good and bad news. The good news is that the burn ran for half an hour. The bad news is that it stoped after half an hour (log below). Also good to have done a firmware upgrade - even if you did all the work and simply clicked the OK prompt. Perhaps I should not try to do dual layer discs on this drive -------------------------------------- //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 - Log ; Thursday, 13 December 2007, 20:00:20 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 19:21:14 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! finalise the disc failed - why?

A snag Downloaded and ran the program. It checked the drive, OK then asked me to open the draw which I did, I then got a message "F/W loader does not apply to the DVD/CD-RW that you are using" I not that the firmware is associated with Sony VAIO while I have a HP machine, but the device is the UJ-832S. Again, and tips?

finalise the disc failed - why?

Thanks but ... I know nothing about the firmware. ....... How do I find out what firmware is on the machine (a HP laptop running XP with a Matshits UJ-832S drive) and how risky is it to change the firmware?
  12. Help please .. I was burning my first dual layer dvd and after following the guide left the machine running happily. On return I got a message saying that "finalise the disc failed" (see log below). Any hints why and what I can do to get it right?
