Wont set layerbreak correctly

I'm using Verbatim DVD+R DL disc from Singapore. IMGburn will only set my layer break correctly about 30-40% of the time. I clearly have layer break set to user specific: 1913760. When I start a burn the log will say it successfully set the L0 capacity to 1913759 and L1 will be from 1913760-3xxxxxx. But when the disc finish burning it'll say the L0 has been set at 208xxxx (54%) I've tried with or without the .dvd file and it makes no difference, layer break seems to keep getting set at 208xxxx even though the log is stating otherwise. I know it can be the media or burner because when I used the free trial of CloneCD I didn't get a single coaster. Any help would be appreciated, I'm going through alot of disc which are not cheap. Thanks.

Edit also the disc are 2.4x and I have tried letting the .dvd file handle the layer break instead of suing user specific but I get the same results.

Your post is pretty useless without a log to back up what you're saying. (and probably all the text from the disc info panel on the right when you're in Read mode)

ImgBurn sets the LB position and then queries the drive to see where it's set to.

If there was a problem, you'd know about it instantly.

Oh and this stuff is all down to the drive, there's only 1 command you can use to set the position so it's impossible for apps to do it differently.

I'll do another burn and post the log.

You can get at previous logs via the Help menu.

Ah I wish I would have waited a sec before I started that burn.

I 10:35:40 User Specified L0 Data Zone Capacity: 1,913,760

Ok so that's the number the program has sent to the drive.

I 10:35:40 Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Succeeded!

and that tells me/us that the drive has:

1. Accepted the command to set the layer break.

2. Reported that very same value back to me when I've queried the drive to find out what the layer break position is set to.

If the 'set' value was different to the 'queried' value you'd get a 'layerbreak miscompare' log entry - and you haven't.

However, I have noticed that your drive doesn't appear to modify the LB position at the moment I tell it to (the times in those two log entries are identical) - which means it's doing it (or should be doing it) during finalisation.

If you're saying CloneCD set the LB ok, try using the Incremental write type (adjust it in the settings).

Going by the distinct lack of hits on Google for 'AD-7586H' I can only assume your PC is one of only a few in the world to have that exact drive! Your chances of finding firmware updates for it are therefore practically zero - and that's the only thing I could suggest doing as a real fix.
