Ok cool, now get us the same log but with the hdd connected internally. :) I should think you'd hit at least 60mb/s on it, no?

I really wish someone would make an enclosure that could happily support 20x dvd burning. Mine seem to give up the ghost at anything over 13x :(

probs get 52,776 kb/s steady if i put it into mobo, I get to 15.8X on 16x discs burning on usb2, will see what i get storing iso on the samsung whilst it's in sata>usb caddy and then burning on ATA then on USB2 benq 1650 or liteon 1635s.

Theoretical throughput of usb2 as you know is 480 mbps /8 = 60 meg a second yeah right 22 - 26 meg a sec is more like it.

They reckon firewire for all its lower 400 mbps /8 is actually faster than usb2, never used firewire to check, might stick a PATA drive in the combo 5.25 and see if it is faster.

Yeah. Mine average somewhere between 26 and 28MB/sec with bursts around 30. Speed difference between IDE and SATA and also between enclosures is minimal. Have you got any of your SATA enclosures daisy-chained? One of mine has the facility to be diasy-chained but I've never tried it.

Mine is sata to usb2 and don't think it can be daisy chained.

I did some writing tests late last night.

1st burned at 16x / ISO stored on Samsung 80 /sata usb 2 drive/ writer in mobo ATA liteon 160p6s

2nd burned at 16x ISO stored on Samsung Sata / usb2 / writer liteon 1635s in sumvision usb2 enclosure

Was going well until it reached 14.3x then bottle necked (basically the way i see it when writing at about 19,000 and reading upto that amount usb2 bus ran out of bandwidth) hence the return to about 8x writing of disc. As you can see in graph

Gonna try now with liteon 1635s in enclosure this time connected via firewire / getting data[iso] from sata usb2 drive

Though it seems this msi board has issues with the mobo via firewire and pl3507 or something Lol.

so dunno if it's even going to burn.

Edit: There is a problem between pl3507 and the built in Via firewire on my msi 975x, half the time windows stops the device, yellow EX in device manager etc, updated 3507 to latest , still the same, it started to burn to ty16x at 0.4 and stuck there for about 20 secs then 0.0 for 3 mins no data etc.

So i decided to connect it to the 1394 on my sound blaster audigy platinum 2 , it's fine on there or seems to be, got upto 15.1 though image was to small to see full speed. Got a 4.35 gig image now to try.

Comes to something when you have to connect to a creative product to get round some incompatibilty issue :D

LUK you used the firewire on ya sumvision with the 1394 connector on your intel 975 board and did or does it work ?

Firewire burn iso stored on samsung sata/usb2 hd, liteon 1635s via firewire.

Got upto about 15.6x before bottle neck.

Gonna test the newlink Sata enclosure I will be getting on Monday from Svp with my M2N32-SLI Deluxe which has an external sata port ) i think or rather hope) was built at same time as my msi 975x and e6600 not used it other than to install windows about 6 months ago, been sitting gathering dust in my bedroom.

Annoyingly i forgot to add a couple of external sata ports to my svp order, then i could have used one on my msi.

This should be the ideal solution, If I decide to buy a 20x dvd writer, you have yours already L_UK ? (liteon)

L_UK you ever used you pioneer 111 in the sumvision combo.

Just got 111 from svp and it does not like the sumvision, semaphore timeout errors.

Will be trying the 111 in another comp a bit later to see if it's just faulty.

Strange thing is though my pioneer 109 in any 3 enclosure's chucked out hundreds of these errors, granted 1st caddy's chipset was ali revision a, other 2 are sumvision pl3507/PMC and the one i tried last night pl3507 /EON.

Will also try 111 in one of the other sumvision combo's that have PMC as thats only difference the 1 i tried it in is EON flash.

Looking thru forum now at drives / media section to see if you, lfc, corny ever had one on USB.

The 109 even did this afterwards in ATA mode which is why i flashed it to be a fast reader only as that's all it ended up being good for.

The pioneer 111 will have to go back if this is the same and i think i'll just get credit note, then buy the liteon 18x you have or maybe the 20 if it based on same chip.

Tested the 111 ATA mode, seems OK only wrote 1 disc though, now trying benq1650 into enclosure 111 was using and benq behaves in there.

pioneer1111zn1.png

pioneer1112ub5.png

Putting pioneer 111 into the USB2 only enclosure i have to see if that stops semaphore timeout errors, if it does not then i would have to say that my pioneer drives hate being in any of my various pl2507/ali M5621/ pl3507 enclosures and i will just give up trying to find chipset it gets on with. (may try it with firewire) and wnaspi

Pioneer 111 in usb2 only pl2506/2507 is or rather seems fine (as semaphore timeout error can strike at anytime even after 12 successful burns) I am confident though it will not appear (FLW) I know.

In the sumvision combo pl3507 the pioneer 111 would not even get to leadin before S T and killing 4 tygo3 off the trot.

Tried it back in 3 different pl3507 caddys and S T errors within seconds. This is using SPTI errors will stop whilst using WNASPI32.DLL as I/O (well it did last time with 109) cannot be bothered to take apart enclosure again to try with 111 as it's ok now in pl2506/2507 enclosure.

Guess it's staying in the usb2 only caddy for the time being, at least they are good for something.

1st sign of this error on pl2506/2507 usb2 only caddy 111 will end up in a comp ATA mode.
