I just wanted to update this since I never got an answer. I ended up getting the LG GSA-H55LK a couple of days after my last post, and that cleared up all the problems. I hope this can help someone in the future.

So do you think I should replace the burner or it's just a few bad disks in the pack I bought?

I've gotten this error about 5 times in the past few days, sometimes during the burn and sometimes while finalizing the disc. I'm not sure if it's a few bad disks out of the ones I bought, or if my drive is dying/dead. It's a NEC 3520A, using Verbatim DL+R.
