I update the firmware because I read on a few forums good testimonies that it was working better. Lately I saw a strong effort to create software that doesn't need restarting. Both Microsoft and softwares house has been pretty good with it. If it is necessary to restart the software usually say that at the end of the installation. ImgBurn didn't give me this message. I restarted and I set the writing speed at 2x. It ended up burning at 4x. Windows didn't give the 2x option. I guess ImgBurg cannot detect the speeds supported by the drive. It worked well... Except that the file on the CD have the absolute path. On the CD I have to navigate to /Users/Cris/Desktop/... Does ImgBurn have a way to start from the relative path? Best, Cris

I didn't restart... I think. I usually hibernate my PC or keep it on. I can try to restart. However, as you said, the driver according to ImgBurn accept all 'write' commands. Have you ever seen something like that before? As you said it is kind of strange. I bought the PC lately and this was the first CD that I burned. During the upgrade of the driver when I bought the PC I upgrade the driver firmware from the DE04 to SC04 (Dell seemed to castrate some of the drive potential in his firmware). Of course I restarted after the upgrade. I thought the new firmware was the problem however, since Vista is able to write, the firmware should not be the problem. While it "pretended" to burn the image the driver was spinning fast. The only difference between Vista and ImgBurn while I was burning the CD was the speed. I set Vista to burn at 4x and I didn't try the MAX speed. ImgBurn was set to the maximum speed. Should I just retry after a reboot and eventually at a lower speed? Best, Cris

I am using Vista. I had to close the WMP11 otherwise the ImgBurn did not start. After that the messages said that it was writing. At the end of the process the Verification failed and the CD was still blank. I was able to write the file using the standard Windows Vista burning system.
