Cynthia: you did not read my post, the DVDs work fine after a reboot, all 3 that I've burned work and play OK. The burner is attached to the onboard motherboard SATA interface. I can always try different drivers tho, that's a thought. The logs, if posted, would show a successful burn and successful verify operation. LIGHTNING UK!: Thank you for the quick reply. There is one odd possibility, that is, when Nero would not burn my Sony DVD blanks (and I note I do not have any other blanks atm to tryout), I updated the firmware of the drive from version 7loa to 7loe, and oddly, the firmware updater told me there was an error in updating the firmware, yet the drive seems to work properly burning and verifying CDRs and DVDs. Device Manager reports the drive as including "7loe" in the device string, so it appears the firmware update did work, tho there is a possibility that the onboard rewritable memory of the drive could have failed, I have no mechanism to test this out. Testing with CD/DVD Speed from Nero did not show any apparent problems. I had no problem burning and verifying a CDR, the "format not recognized" problem did not occur with a burned data CDR. One other observation, on bootup if a video DVD is in the DVD burner drive, it sure takes a long time (couple of minutes) for the burner to finally decide the DVD disc is not bootable/readable as a boot disc, is this typical? Yes, I know I can disable the boot from optical drive feature in the BIOS. I'm an electrical engineer, I rarely post a question on problems as most times I can fix them myself or find an answer. This time, I'm stumped, beginning to think the drive has some internal problem, dunno, but for the most part, it seems to work OK. Autoplay is disabled, I've tried multiple refreshes, open and close Explorer and Powerdesk (my file manager of choice) many times in an attempt to refresh the drive. Also, ejecting DVD and reinserting does nothing to help, that was the first thing I tried, even tho I believe the program automatically ejected the DVD after the burns. Hi! I decided to try out Imgburn since my Nero 6 (OEM) program won't burn my Sony DVDs, yet Ghost will burn an image to the same DVDs (odd eh?) in the same drive, and I've done a restore from those DVDs so I know the burner works correctly. Anyway, the burned files are DVD files created by the Nero Vision program, resized using DVDShrink, then I burn em to DVD (single layer, mostly cartoons for my daughter). All works as it should on my other machines (I have 3 Liteon DVD burners total), yet with the newest burner purchased, an IHAS120-6 SATA Liteon burner, it appears to not like the Sony DVD blanks that work fine in my other IDE Liteon burners (the error message is Illegal Disk, which appears to mean the burner does not like the DVD blank, found this googling for answers). So, I tried Imgburn, it appears to work fine, the verify step completes, and after burning, if I try and access the disk, I get this error: "Windows cannot read from the disk. The disk might be corrupted or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows". OK, the first time I saw this, I decided to burn a second DVD cuz maybe the first one was bad, yet I got the same result. Then, I rebooted, and to my surprise, the DVDs are actually burned properly, and Windows can read from them, but not until after a reboot. OS: Winxp SP2 Intel Quadcore CPU (Q6600) Asrock mobo (4coredual-sata2) 2 gig ddr2 memory 80Gig IDE HD IHAS120-6 Liteon SATA DVD/CD burner Liteon CDR/W IDE burner LTR-52327s Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Oh, and one final comment, since SATA drives are PNP, I tried this: unplugged sata data cable and plugged back in, XP detected device reconnected, then the disk can be read by WinXP without error.
