I have noticed newer versions but I guess I figured if it aint broke don't fix it as aside from this latest disc problem I have never had consistent problems with the version of IMG BURN I use before (btw I also tried burning in NERO and it also completed but came up with a verify error as well)..that being said the version listed above of IMG BURN is on my desktop and laptop...again the laptop has not given me any problems...so you may be right on possibly the lens needing cleaning as I have had some problems backing up a dvd and the dvd will not read past a certain/mid way point...but I chalked that up to it being a scratchy disc..then again on my laptop it reads and rips with the exact same disc with no problem..a few questions...is it possible for my burner to write to completion and actually be a good burn but have reading problems when verifying due to a dirty lens? thus causing these error messages..I guess what I am trying to say is can it burn with no flaws but read as if there were flaws due to a dirty lens...reason I ask this is I can play these discs with no problems on my standalone players as well as on my laptop with no problems at all..second question is do you have any recommendations for DVD drive lens cleaners? and third I was really surprised at how horrible Verbatims did on my external drive..yet had no problems on my laptop drive..I noticed people mentioning firmware updates for their burners but for the life of me can find no firmware mentions for my particular external HP drive anywhere on the hp site..is there a data base site you can refer me to? your help is deeply appreciated thank you!

I hope someone can be of help....I recently have started having burning issues with my external HP DVD840d writer and SONY DVD+R Ver 1.3 1x-16x...I get a good burn all the way through but I get failures when in Verify mode..sometimes to the point that it hardly starts to verify and I get an error right away...other times mid-way through or towards the end.. now I know this means there is some failure in burning the disc.. but what I have managed to discover is when I play these on my standalone DVD players in my house they play fine..when I try to play it on the drive that recorded it on my pc..the thing literally wants to vibrate off the desk and then just stays in a very high speed mode and nothing...I was suspicious as to maybe it was a bad batch of SONY discs but I have had success with SONY in the past and after seeing the disc number (Disc ID: SONY-D21-00) I went back to past SONY DVDs to see if they were the same ID and sure enough they were and I had no problems burning with them..
