Ok, it's probably that then. I'll take it out and try on another PC and if it's really broken I'll just get a new one. Thanks for the help.

By the way, the drive detects and burns blank DVD-Rs, so at least the laser works. Is there a way that only the dual layer functionality is disabled?

Yeah it does all that. Gonna have to try it on another PC. Can the drive's laser just break that easily? I'm sure I haven't hit it or anything since the last time it worked.

Now it doesn't even read CDs. I don't get it, it worked perfectly before and I haven't touched the wiring or anything. Could it be a problem with Windows not properly recognizing the device?

I've been burning dual layer DVDs for a while now, using an Optiarc AD7190 drive. Recently I reinstalled Windows and now when I insert a blank DVD DL into the drive, ImgBurn doesn't see it and just displays the "Device not ready (Medium not present - Tray closed)" message. Does this have to do with setting the book type or something? I know the drive works so surely it has something to do with the ImgBurn setup?
