I can live with that(: Odd part was It took me a long time to make the image with the AVAST anti virus monitor on and even just burning the image took 2 hours so even if you make the image first it was taking a long time. On another computer Microsoft security essentials was not so bad and was 4 times faster burning the image. Turning off the anti virus monitor was the ticket.

Thanks I had not thought about anti virus. I had the same problem burning direct or to an image. I had burned some fine before so the issue of the anti virus may be the case. I need 3 disks to get the whole collection of 750,000 files and the first two disks took a long time (4 hours). I was pulling from a NAS over a 1 GBit Ethernet link but then copied them locally and tried it from a USB 3.0 disk. It helped but not really very much. The speed was so slow it was not an issue of the transport. I'm now sure it was not related to where I was pulling the data from but it had to be a reason related to access slowing it down. I had assumed it was because the index got so big it took longer to update but I now think that is not an indexed write to the file system. I'll try with the Anti Virus off and post back.

I'm burning DVD +R DL disks of icon collections. The image is large with 188,000 files (yes that many) nested level of folders. The process starts out making the image to about 1/2 GB instantly then proceeds to about 25% then hits a wall. Thye speed declines steadily until it's ticking off about 3 files per second. The total image is atad over 7 GB but making it is quite long. the Image File System(s): ISO9660, UDF (1.02). I'm thinking it's just a process of building the monster index that goes with it. Is there a better way to burn DVDs with a lot of files in it.
