Most burners work well with DAO/SAO mode, but there are a few particular burners that like Incremental mode better. Both modes seem to do the same thing in the end so you don't need to worry about it.

In ImgBurn go to Tools -> Settings -> Write tab, change Write Type to Incremental and click OK. Now try burning again and see if it works. You might also want to try burning at slower speeds.

I also have major problems with my HP with this burner. THe only freeware program that accepts Optiarc is IMGBurn ... but there are always problems.
