  1. And jist when i thot i knew somethin' MMmmm...maybe there is no heat issue at all then ? Cynthia, can you please elaborate ?
  2. First let me say Thank You to mmalves, Spinningwheel and LIGHTNIG UK for thier help and responses. A few days back i posted that i was gettin incomplete burns. I turns out that my problem, other than elcheapo discs was that my PCU was gittin hot. I have had my pc apart a few times replacin my burner, cd/dvd-rom and both hard drives. In this process i had to take the PCU coolin fan out so i could fit my hands in there to work. In doin so i broke the 'seal' of the heat sink medium and caused it to dry out. This in turn causes the CPU to heat up after a few hours of use.Fortumately the burnin process fails BEFORE it writes anything and doesn't waste my disc. I shut it down, wait a few hours and git right back to it. I'm good for about 5 burns or 4-5 backups and 2-3 burns before the PCU heats up and i have to give my pc a break. No i haven't done a temp check yet coz this pc is not on line for me to download the temp check software. As soon as i can git some Arctic Silver 5 i will do the temp check, replace the medium and let ya'll know how things went. Again, thanx mmalves, Spinngwheel and LIGHTNING UK for your responses, They were all educational for me. Also, thank you ImgBurn webmaster and moderators for this wonderfull website. Jim MMmm.....i hope i posted this in the correct forum. Edited for: Oh yeah, i also dropped the burn speed to 6x, it's the slowest one supported by the discs i'm usin.
  3. Hi, my name is Jim. I'm new here and i jist wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. I am not very pc savvy( but i'm learnin ) and i have very recently taken an interest in goin beyond the occasional burnin a cd, playin on hobby forums and sendin e-mails with my pc. I jist resurected my old HP a few days ago by replacin the used up hard drive and installin a newly purchased version of XP w/SP3 sheeeew, what a task that was . I am also in the process of learnin how to enhance that older pc and use it for dedicated off line tasks such as backin up all my dvd's, cd's and i want to git into makin my own dvd's of homegrown movies, transferin all my home movie vhs's onto dvd's and creatin more family memories on dvd's. Aside form all that. I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to you folks for havin such a website as this. I think it is above and beyond fer you good folks to take time from your lives and share your knowledge with newbies like me so that we may learn and enjoy the things that come so easy for you all. I am lookin forward to continualy kearnin from you folks and finaly truely enjoyin my pc for things i'll enjoy doin. Again, THANK YOU all very much, Jim

I switched to ImgBurn( so far i absolutely love it) and got two successful burns and then two failures with progressively lesser burns. I tried slowin down the burn speed to no avail. I am stumped.( i am also not very pc savvy, but willin to learn ) FYI, if it matters. I am runnin XP-SP3.Usin an HP burner with LiteScribe, Memorex DVD-R discs and DVD Shrink.
