  1. Hi, all.

I have a large number of files that I want to burn to disc, and I want to use as few discs as possible. Is there a way (either within ImgBurn, Windows, or another program) to automatically group/batch the files within size-based clusters, so that I don't have try to manually do the math on every possible combination of the files before burning?

    Thanks.

  2. I have two players that refuses to play DVD Video +R DL discs and one that only plays those discs. :(

But they are not JVC branded. One day I will get a new nice player, I just need the time to take a bunch of burned discs and go to a shop and spend some time trying to play them and watch the frustration of the seller.

That's crazy... I don't think I've encountered any player from among the several in my and my family's homes that didn't play dual-layer discs... Have I just been lucky or something? Hmmmm.

EDIT: Wait a second... if my player skips every few minutes or so before resuming play, does that mean it DOESN'T support DVD+R DL's afterall?... Or would it not play AT ALL if it didn't? I'm not sure if my player is unsupportive, or if I just have a bad burn here (thought ImgBurn verified the burn successfully...). Insights?

    EDIT #2: And what are more supported? DVD+R DL's or DVD-R DL's?

  3. Have you ever heard of a DVD player that DOESN'T play dual layered discs?... My current player is just about on the outs, so I've been looking around at potential new ones, and I found this JVC model that I thought I liked and might get: http://av.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028376&pathId=116&page=1

Upon working on a project with ImgBurn, I came across the "...if your player supports it, use seamless layer breaks..." issue. So I thought I'd email JVC to see if this player I was thinking of getting supported seamless layer breaks. They responded this:

Are you referring to seamless playback for Dual-Layer discs? If so, please note that this unit cannot play Dual-Layer video discs.

They later went on to recommend to me one of their $250 recorder/players... Overkill in my eyes, not to mention the huge jump in price.

Have any of you ever heard of a DVD player that DIDN'T play dual layers?... This would mean that any longer movie, any with that little pause when jumping between layers, wouldn't work on said player... This seems VERY odd to me. So what do you all think? Do you think JVC is just blowing steam, and the first player I was looking at would probably work anyway, or are there really players that won't play dual layers?...

    Thanks!

  4. Eh, that's a bit more work than the situation demands. But, to my point, using JUST ImgBurn, you can't adjust the exact frame of the layer break in the preview window, correct? You can just pick from the choices your given.

And what exactly do the %'s mean? Is that just the amount of material that will be on either layer of the disc? How important is it for me to pick one of the 50/50% ones?

Thanks! Sorry for all the questions >_<

  5. Oh, nevermind. I see now where it says either a "1" or "2" (up in the window header, not in the cell count). So I just need to choose whichever cell I prefer from the choices given, yes? Like, I can't choose myself a specific FRAME where I want the break to occur by using the preview window. Correct?

  6. Hight light the row you want to use as layer break and click OK.

If the layer break is in the DVD Video part (inside of the VOB files) - it's a grey star rating.

Padding low or high? Theoretically a high number of padding sectors should take the laser head longer time to jump over. In practice I can't say I've seen that happen.

Do the adjustments I do within the preview window have any effect on where the layer break is? Or do I not have that much control here? The guide says "Within the preview window, Cell 1 is what would play just BEFORE the layer transition, Cell 2 is what would be played straight AFTER it. You can use the < and > buttons to 'step' through the movie frame by frame. Alternatively, just drag the slider!" That makes it sound as if changing the numbers in the little cell box would specify where the break will be. Is this so? As it is, the lowest cell number I can navigate to among the options given is 10... not 1 or 2. Can you explain this?

  7. Are they just not grey? If so, pick one that is around 50/50 and where the switch is natural (pre play it and find the best layer break). If your stand alone player supports it, select seamless and you won't notice the layer break.

Sorry, I should've specified. They're ALL grey. But, any within the 50/50 specification should be pretty good? What about padding? Is a higher or lower number better to pick from? And how exactly do I confirm my choice of layer break? Just by picking the spot I want in the preview window then clicking OK with the line selected?

    Thanks!

  8. Hi, everyone. New user here. So, I'm following along in the guide about burning onto a DL DVD, and I'm at the step where you pick your layer break position, where the guide says "The coloured stars will give you an idea of the best place (technically speaking) for the layer break position..." But none of the stars in my list are colored! Does this mean I do not need a layer break in my DVD? I would assume so, seeing as the content to be burned is over 5GB. What other guidelines or tips should I follow for picking a layer break position?
