I usually get that one when the burner doesn't really like the brand/media code very much and/or the selected write speed. As you only have one write speed to play with (2.4x) there is no solution to try another write speed. So if the updated firmware still produces errors, get another brand of media to try with. Thank you so much for your help, it was very much appreciated. I tried out both your suggestions. Firstly I updated the firmware and for a while I thought that this had fixed the problem as I was succesfully able to burn a disk. However when I tried another one, back the same problem. So wnet out and bought some Verbatim DVD-Rs (mediaID of MMC03RG20) and hey presto it was like magic. Able to burn and verify succesfully. I must admit I was a little surprised as I thought that if teh media was no good then I would have seen write errors or read errors not a succesful completion and then nothing appearing the disk. I guess you live and learn (though I do fell pretty stupid for not trying a different disk earlier) Once again your help is much appreciated Oh almost forgot to add that the media brand was called LASER. I think these may have been given to me and are probably some cheapies from Malaysia but then again I don't knoe

Have tried searching the forum (and the net) but couldn't find anything similar to the problem I am having. It seems that whenever I write a DVD (with any program) that it completes succesfully but then it looks as though there is nothing written to the disk when you try and read it! I am using WIndows XP and DVD+R disks (could they be the problem?) I have added the log from the last imgburn session where I tried to write an ISO image file. I have also tried writing files/folder but with teh same problem. Is it possible that the h/w has failed in a manner where it thinks that it is writing but in fact it isn't?
