Thank you for the rapid Response, mmalves.
I have downloaded the firmware update from the link you were kind enough to provide (and for which I thank you), but I have not yet installed it or continued to try getting Image Burn to work. During the period of time between my original post and when I read your response, I have been successful in burning a couple ISOs with another program. In fact, one of the ISOs I've succeeded in burning was to DVD, using the LG drive and discs from the same manufacturer I was previously using.
From the success I've had, I'm inclined to believe the problem I was having prior to my post was not related to an issue with my optical drive or the medium I was using. I think it would be safe to say that the problem is with the Image Burn program.
Still, I may go ahead and install the firmware update v2.0, hope it doesn't wreck a drive that is (seemingly) working correctly, and continue to get Image Burn to work as it should. If this is what I end up doing, I will return with my results, positive or negative.
Thank you, again, for your time and effort to respond to my trouble.
Oh, and incidentally, the program I successfully used to create the the ISOs I made today is an old (2004) item which was recently updated to add DVD functions to it. It is called, simply, ISO Recorder and can be found here.
