  1. I'm used to messing around with PCs and know a fair bit about some things, but not burners. In fact I'd never heard of booktype until you pointed it out. Of course, I've now read up on the basics, but don't understand all the implications. I actually hit lucky with the "Normal" setting, as I'm not sure whether that is the default setting or whether I had changed it to that earlier. Either way, Normal plus disable Auto-change Booktype gave me my first good disc. Following reading up on booktype I switched to DVD-ROM and got another coaster. So I switched back to Normal and have since successfully burned two 3GB image files to separate DVDs. It is odd, but it seems to work now, so I'm happy. Thanks again for your help.
  2. Cracked it! Your suggestion to disable Auto-change Book Type works. Also need to set to Normal, not DVD-ROM. Incremental not necessary - using DAO/SAO. Burning at 8x. Many thanks.
  3. Thanks for the amazingly fast response! Re speed, when I first got the problem I was using setting AWS, which I believe is max speed, and for later runs reduced it to 4x following advice on other forums/threads. The drive spec says that for DVD+R it supports 2.4x, 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x, and the media is rated at 16x. Looks OK to me, but you may know better. Re cleaning, I don't clean as regularly as I should, but I did give it a really good clean with a cleaning CD (no fluid) in the middle of this run of tests and it didn't seem to make any difference. I hadn't tried the Incremental setting, but have just done so and got exactly the same failure. I am reluctant to get a new drive as this is an older machine. Is there any reason why everything should be OK with CDBXP but fail with Imgburn? Please don't take that the wrong way - I might like CDBXP, but I definitely want rid of .NET framework which has given loads of problems on a friend's machine and is now starting to play up on mine.
  4. I’ve been using CDBurnerXP successfully for a long time, but want to get rid of .NET framework. I found Imgburn and it looked really good. Problem I have is that it seems to recognise my burner and burn the DVD fine. But then it fails verification with a "layouts do not match" error and the disc appears blank in Windows Explorer. I am **not** using DL discs – just Verbatim DVD+R. I don’t get the problem with Verbatim DVD+RW. I’ve also tried reinstalling CDBurnerXP to see if there’s been a hardware change, and found the same discs are still burning fine with CDBXP. Log file as follows.
