At the moment I have Daemon Tools. Have you tried WinCDEmu? I always meant to try it but never came around to do it.
This step I knew. I simply thought you meant with split, 7-zip will create the proper ISO itself. I was a bit surprised. That's all.

How exactly does one split with 7-zip? Do you need to unpack first?
In either case will the new ISO image be already compatible with the .mds file?
