I think this is my question as well,, sorry if it is not, so i will ask here anyway...
What is the best way to build a data disk and burn it without having all the parent directories and subdirectories on my computer be on the new disk?
for instance if the file\folder is located in C:\Program files\Downloads\(my file or folder)
how do i get my burn to put it in the primary spot,, ie,, just open the disk and see (my file or folder)?
under options i see two check boxes,,Preserve
, andfull pathnames
.Recursive subdirectorieslol,, I do not know what recursive subdirectories are,,and am do want to maintain the directory structure within the folder i may burn...
any suggestions would be a big help..
Other than this,, I have never had a bad burn with ImgBurn!!

I thought i would add a bit more here to this problem. It is not a problem with IB...
I have no problem with Media player Classic playing these avi files that i have copied to my hd directly from my camera. the problem is when i burn them to a dvd,, double layer or single. then i cannot play them with MPC. I thought it was a burn problem.
However, i saw a post here that spoke of VLC media player and thought i would give it a try. I had made a short test avi clip in anothe program,,and played it back with MPC..and alas I had the Stutters again.. like two low a frame rate in a game. By chance i played it in VLC,, and had no problems...
So i decided to try my latest attempts at burning these files to dvd,,( I reburned them on both a dual and single layer dvd), initially i thought they were coasters,, so did a David Letterman,, and sailed them across the room twards my trusty Woodburner,,,
well in VLC, the problems were still there,,but not nearly as bad,, just an occasional stutter.
next i decided to play the avi from my hd,, then replayed the same file directly from my dvd's. Strangely enough,, I had no problem with either. I have no clue as to why when i play the file from hd,, then replay from dvd it works "as advertised"!!
So next i added the avi files directly from dvd into my editing software,,and played them there (Premiere Pro 2). Again they played flawlessly. Go figure..
I have not tried playback with any commercial players,, as i gave them up long ago for MPC and now VLC,so don't know if that makes a difference..
just wanted to add this in case anybody else has a similer problem..

Uncheck 'preserve full pathnames' ? (which is default anyway)
Then you'll only get 'my backup folder' and not 'D&S' -> 'Me' -> 'Desktop' -> 'my backup folder'.
aah great,, i knew it had to be easy,, I should have caught that!!
Lol,, fwiw,,, i must have burnt 20 some disks today,, all great burns!!

Howdy,, and a good Weekend to one and all..
I am doing a major cleanup and backup of my two hd's and noticed that IB creates folders for each in my computer. For instance, C\
&S\Me\Desktop\my backup folder. It does the same for other drives, I got an error msg that i had too many folder layers,, but figured out how to overcome this. My question is,, how do i create a disk,,,and have my primary backed up folder be the only one on the dvd?
Hope this makes sense,,and thanks in advance

actually my tapes are 80 min tapes and this creates a number of avi files running 17 gig total. So even using two dual layer disks,, aprox 8 gig of data on each,, will cause this problem? (obviously, i think) If i instead use 4 single layer DVD's, then i will have around 4 gig per dvd. will this solve the stuttering problem?
wow.. i digress here a minute,, The Internet is just an incredible place.. the Sh-t you have to go thru to do what you want with these relativly inexpensive high tech toys..
. and all the info you need is here on the internet,, just for the time to search,,and the input from good people, This is a golden time,, may it last forever...Yea,, i think a large e-sata drive will be on my list for backups of my film clips.. and i think i will use at least two different forms of backup,, just to be safe.
Tape backup is the most expensive,most reliable, but least user friendly because you have to retransfer to the computer to do any editing,,and this is done in realtime. DVD's\Hd's are the most convenient,,and are very cost efficient, but their reliability over time is still unknown,, Lol,, just how do they know a new dvd will last 100 years? sheesh,, DVD's are hardly 10 years old,, more or less..
Hard drives,, alas,, are inexpensive, large, and prone to crash.. I already lost my first three hours of video on a Hitachi internal,, not 3 months old...
Now all my clips are on my two large SATA western digital drives,, and ,, and,, sheesh,, but i gots to do something,,,
my drives are getting full!!

hmmm i thru the disk away,,and don't remember if i copied from dvd to disk,,and tried to play the file.. I will reburn and give it a try. also i will burn at 2.4x.
I can play dual layer dvd movies with no problem,,and when i back up a movie onto dual layer,, i can play them from this drive.

a dv tape is about an hour of video and is 17 gig in size.. fits on two dual layer dvds with no problem. However they are many segments, not one continuous video file. every time you stop or pause it creates a new file. So they are different sizes.
I wonder if I made a mistake in burning. I do not remember the screen coming up for me to select the layer break. Is this because its a data disk and not a movie? Or did i miss a step.

If it's getting over 500 burns it might be time for a clean/overhaul or replacement
Some drives do a few hundred, others almost 1000 burns
well maby that is the case. i did notice that when i burnt my last single layed dvd's i got some coasters until i slowed the burn speed down to 6x

Ive had it about a year.. average use. I seem to go thru phases of use. Lol,, like when the ole HD's are getting full, i burn all the junk off

thats an option i have thought of a well,, perhaps a large USB that i can use just for these files.. they are going to be for a documentary on building my new shop,, Lol,, a very low tech hands on stone,Iron,and Log Blacksmith shop,,,
I am a man with a high tech hobby (my 'puter) and a very low tech Lifestyle,, is the best way to describe my work..
but i would still like to know what is causing this problem...

I did some more research on your site,, and actually found nothing on this problem,, But,, i noticed you suggest that you burn dual layer disks at 2.4x speed. I did burn all my movies (which burned fine) and the faulty data disk at 4x. could this be the problem? even tho all disks were verified good burn?

I posted this on another msg board when you were down yesterday,, but got no help.. hopefully you can help me here. I am new to imgburn, but find it very user friendly,,and thought i had it figured out...
I am trying to back up avi files from my camcorder onto verbatum DVD+R DL double layer disks. I did a movie first to test out the burn and it went fine.
the burn went fine and was verified but when i tried to play the individual avi files from the disk, they were jerkey and very slow. some got error msgs from my player (latest version of mplayer classic). here is the data from the rt window in imgburn ver 2.3.0.0.
I also copied the files to my desktop,, but still had the same problem. all these files play fine on my hd after transferring them from my camcorder (miniDV) to HD (avi).
i burned another two or three movies off my HD to dual layer disks (same as above) with no problems.. i can only guess that i have something not set up correct to burn a dual layer data disk.. i don't seem to remember seeing the screen to select the breakpoint between layers.. sorry but thats about the only hint i can give...

boot disk question

I hope this is the right place for this question..
Can I make a boot disk for Partition Magic with ImgBurn? Can I put the two floppys required on a single bootable cd or dvd,,and have it work the same as the two floppies?
