It must be something in your software or the drive itself, because I connected a Samsung external (USB) DVD writer/drive that I use for my ultra-book, and was easily able to change the "Book Type". I will post again if does not work. However, you may wish to look into the compatiblity with the LG WH14NS40 drive.

Still get the same error. I cannot change the "Book Type". Everytime I try to change to "DVD-ROM" from "DVD+R DL" I get the error message "Failed - Reason: Invalid Field in CDB" The LG WH14NS40 drive was updated to the latest version of firmware 1.00-N1 before I ran ImgBurn. The LG drive is connected to an ASUS P8Z77-I motherboard with an Intel i5 3.5GHz processor, 16 GB of RAM and Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64. All software and firmware is up-to-date. I have never had a problem with this LG drive it reads and writes everything like a champ. No problems with other aspects of ImgBurn - I just cannot change the "Book Type".
