Mhm, I see Verbatim DVD-R spindles are for sale nearby. They look like these: https://www.mediaprostore.com/images/product_images/popup_images/1858_0__1387_dvd-r-verbatim-ls-cake.jpg So, will burning at 4x yield better results than burning at 8x? I could use the extra longevity with my discs. EDIT: Tried writing to a spare Philips DVD+R DL... it works. I guess my drive doesn't like this particular brand after all. Hopefully Verbatims will cut it.

I tried googling this drive earlier on and the results stated little as to which brands it liked and which not... I seem to be in a pickle here, hmm. Just one of the numerous logs pointing to inexplicable errors that persist no matter what I try... and this is what I have tried so far: - deleting other applications' drivers that were interfering - updating Intel chipset drivers - updating BD-ROM drive's firmware - running ImgBurn as administrator - running ImgBurn in safe mode - changing write method to Incremental - experimenting with various write speeds - enabling Optimum Power Calibration Out of many attempts to write to a DVD-R, I have only ever had one successful burn... or partially successful perhaps ( the disc worked up until a certain point ): I 17:21:30 Operation Started! At the time it took 3 seconds to write the lead-in as opposed to most tries during which it takes 7 minutes or so for an error to show up in the log. As you may be able to tell, I have no idea what I did right back then... I was using the same brand from the same batch of DVDs. If anyone has tips I could use please let me know. I know many of you have a sharp eye for this kind of thing so hopefully there might be something I haven't tried yet. I appreciate the time!
