So drives just start "going bad," and then you have to buy a new one? My drive still recognizes professionally produced DVDs. (And my TV's DVD player still recognizes the store-bought ones... I've been burning from the same spindle of 100 blank DVD-Rs for 4 years.)

Yes, I'm using the same blank DVD-Rs that I always use. Are you saying the solution is that I can no longer use normal store-bought DVD-Rs? I can do that but it's very inconvenient.
Would newer store-bought DVD-Rs help (mine are 4 years old)? Would buying a DVD/CD-Rom cleaner help?

I was writing an Image file to a DVD-R, like I've done many times, when this error occurred. I closed and re-opened ImgBurn, but the software won't recognize my blank DVD-R anymore. It says, "Device not Ready (Medium Not Present - Tray Closed)." What happened?

Thank you for your prompt responses! I'm going to buy new discs now. I'm using the internal drive that came with my computer when I bought it 6 years ago.
