Well have to say you were both spot on i opened up another pack of discs (same type) and am now back to having no problems Time for a refund i think Thanks for your help guys

I've used loads of these discs and never had a problem up until now i'm using http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=2026&prepg=1 I've also tried using my other writer which is a Tsstcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183A and get the same i/o error but at 53% Could it be down to my something on my board and those pesky jmicron drivers
