mmalves Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You need a new drive in order to write DVDs. The one you currently can only write CDs.
tim7286 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Ok. Here is my problem. Im trying to burn a DL and everytime i insert a blank DL it comes up with the medium not present error. Now i have burned with both CD's and DVD's. I have also burned with DL until recently. When I insert a DL with info on it, it recgonizes it and says disc not empty. I tried removing the drive in device mgr and restating/reinstalling ive also tried updating my firmware to the most recent version (i have a gsa-h22l LG drive with firmware 1.0.2.) Im kind of at a loss here because everything was working fine before, any help would be appriciated. thanks. Oh also, i am using verbatim DVD+R DL. here is my log as well... I 19:14:49 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started! I 19:14:49 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 19:14:49 Total Physical Memory: 785,904 KB - Available: 397,180 KB I 19:14:49 Initialising SPTI... Cynthia Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum, tim7286! If you insert the media you'r having problems with and then start the 'Read mode' of the program - do you then see anything in the right info panel about the disc information? If you see it, can you just copy and paste that info into a posting window here? It should look something like this: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115D 1.22 (ATA)Current Profile: DVD+R Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 2

mmalves Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 The drive thinks there's no disc in the drive. If you insert a burned (or pressed) dual-layer disc, does it recognize the disc and show the information?
tim7286 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 The drive thinks there's no disc in the drive. If you insert a burned (or pressed) dual-layer disc, does it recognize the disc and show the information? yes. if i put a burnt d/l in the drive it sees it no problem.
mmalves Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Do you have Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools installed? Also please post your Filter Driver Load Order (look in ImgBurn's Tools menu).
tim7286 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) Do you have Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools installed? It shows the redbook upper filter first which points to a microsoft .sys file Then I have the GEARAspiWDM driver which I believe its part of iTunes I have no lower filters. well. i just tried burning a d/l using nero and nero was not seeing d/l either. so im pretty sure my drive is hosed. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 If there's nothing in the disc info box then the message in the status bar should tell us all we need to know. Normally it'll say 'medium not present' or 'unable to recover toc'.... both of which mean the drive has issues with the disc you're putting in it (or in the case of the first message, you don't have a disc in the drive at all!) No software can do anything with the drive / media until the drive reports itself as 'ready' - and for that to happen it needs to have initialised the disc properly.
