ImgBurn Startup / Shutdown Problem

I'm new to ImgBurn but am a long term user of burning software.

I recently uninstall Nero Burning Rom from my computer and replaced it with ImgBurn.

The problem that I am having with ImgBurn is as follows:

1) When I launch ImgBurn, the following message appears in the status bar at the bottom of the ImgBurn window - "Terminating Interface Thread..."

2) Also, the destination CD / DVD drive is greyed out and never becomes active.

3) Finally, when I attempt to exit Imgburn, the program displays the message "closing down..." and takes 5 minutes or more to shut down.

Get the little registry file from the FAQ that enables I/O Debug Mode and run/import it before running ImgBurn.

The log file will then capture the I/O command sent to the drive and we should be able to see what's taking ages to process and perhaps why.

Ok, obviously it's taking no time at all to discover the drives.

You need to actually do something in the program that makes it appear to hang for ages... I'd assumed it was I/O related but maybe it's not?

When you pick your 'mode' from the initial Ez-Mode Picker screen, try doing so with and without a disc in the drive (don't forget to import the debug reg file each time you start the program).

Ok, I don't fully understand what you are asking for.

When I start the program, the ez picker comes up immediately and the "terminating interface thread..." message appears at the bottom on the ex picker window. At this point in time I can select any of the modes and the program will switch to that window. But, even though the program has identified the CD / DVD drive, the drive is grayed out in the destination window and I can't proceed with any further selections in that mode window. I also can switch to any other mode as everything under Mode drop down menu is now also grayed out.

When I attempt to exit the program, the ImgBurn window dims as you would expect and it doesn't actually close for something like 5 minutes. I can type "CTL-ALT- DEL" and select to end the imgburn process and the ImgBurn program window will close but the ImgBurn process will continue to be listed in the processes window. It will eventually shut down but again it takes minutes for this to happen.

I find it strange that the log shows that the drive was found and the drive is indeed listed in the destination window but it is grayed out and is inaccessible. Having a disk in the drive or not seems to make no difference and selecting different modes from the ez picker also seems to make no difference.

I can run logs as you suggested in your last email but I can't help but wonder why the interface thread terminates prior to my doing anything with the program other than starting it.

Ok - Here's some more information:

I placed a CD-R disk in the drive that contained some files and read one of the files. I then started up ImgBurn and is operated correctly. I started the program several times and it worked as expected.

Next, I shut down the computer. I left the CD-R disk in the drive and restarted the computer. I started ImgBurn and got the "Terminating interface" message again". I closed ImgBurn and restarted it again (with the CD-R disk left in the drive) and this time the program started normally. I then shut ImgBurn down and removed the CD-R disk from the drive and started ImgBurn again. This time the program started normally - even though the CD-R was no longer in the drive.

Finally, I shut the computer down, rebooted it, placed the CD-R disk in the drive, enabled debug log and again started ImgBurn. I expected that I would have to shut it down and start it a second time but this time the program worked normally.

So - it appears that the program starts sometime and doesn't others but it seeems to be much more reliable on my computer if I leave an already written to disk in the drive when I start the program. Does this make sense?
