andyt Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Having just returned a LG I am now on the hunt for a new burner. I'd be grateful for any ideas on what to go for but it needs to be external and ideally good to work with Verbs 8x made in singapore of which I have quite a few left. Will look at any suggestions and would be grateful if you could mention where you got it from if it's not the usual run of the mill place. Must add that I am UK member so would be better suited to buying from a uk source. Thanks
Cynthia Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I would go for a 5.25 Aluminium Enclosure/Case USB 2.0 and then mount a nice internal IDE/PATA burner such as a Pioneer 115/116/117/118 or an Optiarc 720x/724x (avoid the 722x) in it. This is the model that I have. http://www.mrgadget.com.au/catalog/welland...b-20-p-400.html
andyt Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Thanks for the reply Cynthia. I have had a look round and have decided to try the Pioneer 116 as per the link Pioneer 116 the only thing I am not fully sure about is the casing. I have seen this one which looks suitable Enclosure However the DVD writer is quoted as being 5.83" wide so surely that doesn't fit into a 5.25" enclosure or am I looking at it wrong? Any more thoughts would be gratefully recieved.
Cynthia Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 If it's sold as a case for 5.25" CD-ROM and all of my burners/readers are at the same size - it should fit.
