I 15:59:14 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

I 15:59:14 Write Speed: 2.4x

Your drive doesn't like the crap media you're throwing at it.

Try the other available speeds, and, when they don't work, get Verbatim 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) blanks.

And yet my friend has burned the same copy that I am trying on the same exact media. I understand there are diff grades of discs but there is obviously a way to do it....

I rather not spend another 25 bucks.

have any other ideas?

The burn process relies on the burner/firmware/media combination: since your burner has the latest firmware and you don't want to try with better media, what's left to try? It doesn't take a :albert: to find out...

Or you could buy 3-5 2.4x Verbatims for testing ;)

Those are the 8x Verbatim blanks, they use MKM-003-00 dye and aren't as compatible with older burners as the 2.4x ones.

The 8x ones you've posted are ~ $2.40 each disc:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817130954 (~ $2.33 each disc)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817131163 (~ $1.70 each disc)

hmm ok.. But none the less you think this should improve my chances of burning even if they are 8x.

Yes, even the 8x Verbatim blanks are better than any other dual-layer brand/dye.

You might also want to get a lens cleaning disc kit to use on your burner, that way you'll make sure it's the best possible situation for burning
