dbminter Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I came across a CD-R from Memorex circa 2001. It's 16x, 700 MB, with a blue and white label surface on it. I checked the Manufacturer Name for giggles and was puzzled to find Gigastorage Corporation instead of INFODISC (Passable.) or CMC MAG (IMMEDIATELY TRY TO SALVAGE AND THEN THROW AWAY). Does anyone have any info on the quality of this Gigastorage Corporation?
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Hmm... a company called Gigastorage Corporation with it?s name on a 700MB disk doesn?t fill me with much confidence.
dbminter Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 In their defense, though, back in 2001, a gigabyte was a different value.
polopony Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Taiwan based company, used google, www.gigastorage.com. It has a US address also
dbminter Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 Yeah, I did a basic Google. But, I wanted more objective opinions, because, like with CMC, I doubt if on the Gigastorage Corporation's web site, they would say, "Ah, we so sorry! We make junk! We make Vanguard look like Verbatim!"
polopony Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 looked at their brand names they sell under and I've never seen them anywhere.I'm sticking with verbs and Yudens period

lfcrule1972 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Have you actually used any of the discs db ? Are they readable now ?
dbminter Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 I haven't tested if it's still readable yet. I haven't used them since at least 2001, it seems.
dbminter Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Ah, cheeky AND impatient, little, bastard, are we?
dbminter Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Since someone just HAD to know... I can report that this Gigastorage Corporation Memorex CD-R read into an MDF image just fine on the NEC 3500a. However, the reported disc size was only 99.4 MB, so, it's not really that good a test.
spinningwheel Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 However, the reported disc size was only 99.4 MB, so, it's not really that good a test. *It is if you started out with 100 mb and 99.4 is all that is left*..........
