tomsavini Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Hello all I have used Image burn (and dvd decrypter) for a long time. Very, very hapy with theese programs. They are fast, easy to use and uses very little RAM etc. I really don't have anything bad to say when it comes to img burn/DVD decrypter.... For the first time ever I've encontered a problem. I've just bought a new pc. 2 burners, optiarc ad-5200 I've set img burn to burn at 2,4. Dual layer dvd. Done this 1000 times before.... Write speed; 2,4. Under "Information" it say's the usual; "Copy: 1 of 1 (write Speed: 2,4x) The strange thing is this; "Write Rate: aprox 5500 KB/s /4.0x)" Why does it burn in 4x??? Hope somebody can help me here
tomsavini Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Ahh... Forgot the log, sorry for that Here it is; I 13:10:15 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started! I 13:10:15 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 13:10:15 Total Physical Memory: 3
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I 13:10:45 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-003-00) (Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x) That's why then. Your drive simply doesn't support 2.4x on that media. The supported write speeds are also listed in the disc info area on the right when you're back on the main screen (in Write mode).

First of all, thanx a lot for taking your time to help me. Really nice.... I don't expect you to find a sollution for me here, it seems like img burn doesn't have anything to to with this. Or.... I dunno. Anyhow... Just to shear some wierd Twilight Zone stuff; I have used lot's of theese dvd+r dl discs. I have never ever encontered this problem before. I have 3 burners in my pc. One dvd in each of the burners. Same dvd's. Optiarc 5170A says DVD support 2,4x, 4x, 6x, 8x The 2 other burners is Optiarc 5200A. On the same media img burn says; can burn in 4x, 6x, 8x 5200a has the same firmware; 1.09 (the latest firmware) 5170 has firmware 1.13 (this is not the newest firmware) Same media, different burn speed options??? Strange? Just checked DVD Decrypter, says the same. 5170 can burn at 2,4, 5200 slowest burn speed at 4x. Strange.... Very strange. And very fustrating indeed.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I really wouldn't worry about it. Speeds are determined by the drive/firmware/media combo. The software has nothing to do with anything. They're 8x discs and your drive might even produce a better quality burn at one of the faster speeds than it does on the slower ones. It's not uncommon for MKM-003-00 to be supported at a min speed of 4x.

Since I use the same media, and 5170 can burn them at 2,4, and 5200 can't I guess I'm gonna go shopping for a couple of 5170's. Thanx for the input!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Burning at certain speeds is a myth. You burn at whatever speed your drive does the best job at.
