Khamikaze Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Memorex DVD+R DL RITEK-D01-01 x TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N Gentlemen, So this is this my first time I trying to BUILD a DVD+R DL (Dual Layer). Before this, I have only made backups of some of mine Dual Layer DVDs (music shows, movies, etc). I have already tried 3 computers: HP Desktop (ImgBurn), Dell Laptop (ImgBurn) and Acer Laptop (a trial Nero), all of them do have Dual Layer DVD Burners and I used the same Memorex DVD+R DL. Unfortunately, all of them have been failing after some time, I guess when the layer break comes... So, what are my chances to make this Memorex DVD+R DL media: Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 , burn successfully on my HP Desktop with this DVD DL burner: Device: [1:1:0] TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0409 (G:) (RAID) ? This is error that I get: --------------------------- ImgBurn --------------------------- I/O Error! Device: [1:1:0] TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0409 (G:) (RAID) ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB: 2A 00 00 0B 01 A0 00 00 20 00 Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 721312 - 721343 Sense Area: 71 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 Interpretation: Write Error --------------------------- Retry Cancel --------------------------- , and this is information from ImgBurn: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0409 (RAID) Current Profile: DVD+R DL Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 4,173,824 Free Space: 8,547,991,552 bytes Free Time: 927:32:74 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x DVD
mmalves Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Device: [1:1:0] TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0409 (G:) (RAID) There's newer firmware available for your burner: try the HB02 first, and if it doesn't work then use 0609. Device: [1:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T11NA103 (F:)(ATA) There's also newer firmware availabe for this burner. In both cases, remove any disc from the drive and close the tray before updating, then reboot the computer after the update is finished. Khamikaze Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 (edited) Hey mmalves, You know, I guess it is a good start trying to update my burners firmware. For the Samsung/Toshiba one (TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N, the main one I would like to have working), I tried to look for the OFFICIAL Samsung/Toshiba web site where I could get the update. However, as I was not sure and I could not find the OFFICIAL site, I stopped pursuing that. By the way, in theory what are the official web sites to download these firmwares? Oh, by the way, AFTER I bought a pack of these Memorex media, I deal that I found, I found out that Verbatim media is usually better... Anyways... Let me try a few things when I get back home and I will let you know. Thanks, PS: (Portuguese) T Edited July 8, 2009 by Khamikaze
mmalves Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Please read this Mini-FAQ for Samsung DVD Writers, it's very informative Bottom line: TS-Hxxxx burners are OEM and their firmware is released/updated by the computer manufacturer (HP/Dell/etc). FirmwareHQ only mirrors official firmwares. If you're in doubt, download the official firmwares (0609/HB02/A104) and the ones on FirmwareHQ to compare them: they're exactly the same On another note, you could try a lens cleaning disc on yours burners for best chance of burning those Memorex blanks, but Verbatim is really the way to go, not to mention they'll last longer too P.S. Khamikaze Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 OK, this is still going... 01. I had to use 0609 as it seems HB02 is not for my burner (it automatically refused to install). 02. I am trying to burn/build a DATA ONLY Dual Layer DVD?... I have not VIDEO_TS folder. I just realize that ImgBurn does not automatically offer me the Layer Break dialog window at all... Regards,
mmalves Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 02. I am trying to burn/build a DATA ONLY Dual Layer DVD?... I have not VIDEO_TS folder. I just realize that ImgBurn does not automatically offer me the Layer Break dialog window at all... That's because the layerbreak position is only important for building DVD-Video discs/images. For data only discs/images the data is split equally on both layers.
Khamikaze Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Oh, OK. So I went ahead but I got the error again: --------------------------- ImgBurn --------------------------- I/O Error! Device: [1:1:0] TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0609 (G:) (RAID) ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB: 2A 00 00 07 4D 80 00 00 20 00 Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 478592 - 478623 Sense Area: 71 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 Interpretation: Write Error --------------------------- Retry Cancel --------------------------- ... Any other suggestions? Thanks,
mmalves Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Please post the log as it has all the information we need (look in ImgBurn's Help menu ).
Khamikaze Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Alright. So here it goes. Thanks, ImgBurn.log.zip
mmalves Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I 22:40:55 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01) (Speeds: 2.4x) Your burner doesn't support that media. Have you read this? Is there any particular reason for using UDF 2.50? I'm asking because UDF 1.02 is the most compatible revision (e.g. Windows XP can't read UDF 2.50 natively).
Khamikaze Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Yes, I know about the Verbatim's... The thing is that I only found out that after I bought this Memorex pack... Too late... The reason for UDF 2.50 is to be able to play this in PS3. Well, I am returning this pack already and already bought a Verbatim pack... I guess I will have to wait for it and then try again. HOWEVER, I have already backup video/movie Dual Layer DVDs using this same media... So... Anyways... I guess this hole is too deep and trying to make it work will spend too much more time than buying a good media... Alright, so thanks a lot BUDDY! Kind regards,
Khamikaze Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 OK. So Verbatim worked just fine, in the first try. So: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N 0609 (RAID) , works fine with: Verbatim DVD+R DL / Disc ID: MKM-001-00 / Book Type: DVD+R DL , I guess I will post this in the other forum. Thanks all for supprot, especially to my Brazilian buddy mmalves. THANK YOU!
