Hi guys..

i have a couple of issues, so here goes.

bit of a run down first, just started using imgburn, have previously been using nero, but nero causing many faults in vista, so uninstalled it.

hardware: sony vaio.

device: matshita dvd-ram uj870qj ata. cannot find any newer firmware

Whilst using nero every thing recorded normal dvd & cd MEDIA Verbatim dvd+r 16x 4.7gig..

issue 1. each time now under imgburn says space available on disc 4.3Gig

so checked with alchol 120% and says same thing.

issue 2. each time i try to burn dvd (same media as above) i get the log below.

issue 3.just found old packard bell dvd+rw 2.4x 4.7 gig, so thought ill give that a go,

imgburn erased disc ok, then said available disc size 4.3Gig,

so tryed to burn 4.7 size file anyway just to see what happened, it also failed please see log 2 below

any help would be greatfully recieved,.

Hi and welcome to the forum, julez! :)

I think you are mixing bytes with GB.

The most common 12 cm DVD+R disc has 2,295,104 sectors, 2048 bytes each; it holds 2,295,104*2048=4,700,372,992 bytes, or 2,295,104*2=4,590,208 KB, or 2,295,104/512=4482.63 MB, or 2,295,104/(512*1024)=4.38 GB of data."

So

I 00:47:11 Source File Size: 4,964,057,088 bytes

is to much to fit on a regular single layer DVD disc.

I 01:32:14 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MCC-004-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

I 01:32:14 Write Speed: 2.4x

Try a lens cleaning disc on that drive. You might also want to try burning at 4x or 6x. Where are those Verbatims made? It's printed on the box/spindle/packaging.

Also, adding to what Cynthia said, you were warned that it wouldn't fit:

W 00:47:10 User accepted disc space warning and is attempting to overburn!

Thank you Cynthia and mmalves

yes i did force the burn, because i ( wrongly) thought that 4.38 available was a fault and not as i can now see standard.

I will try lens cleaner anyway.

and try with smaller file sizes..

Verbitims from India.. after reading this site will keep eyes open for singapore made items.

again thank you for you replys

Not sure Indian ones are that bad. I use them for -R media with good result.

It's normally for the DL media you should look out for the Singapore made.
