I was told about this software by a friend of mine. I haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting...and it's freeware.

THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE DOWNLOAD SITE

"SUPER ? Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.

A GUI to ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, x264, ffmpeg2theora & the theora/vorbis RealProducer plugIn.

If you need a simple, yet very efficient tool to convert (encode) or play any Multimedia file, without reading manuals or spending long hours training, then SUPER ? is all you need. It is a Multimedia Encoder and a Multimedia Player, easy-to-use with 1 simple click."

To read more about and get the software go here.

If you want to read some comments on SUPER go here and scroll down the page. Not all of the comments are positive but most of them are.

Hmm... being the cynical person I am (IT?S GREAT AND IT?S FREE), I thought I?d grab it and have a look for myself. My cynicism wasn?t misplaced. For the application to function it requires internet access every time it?s started. Super © tries to send a http request to http://updat.free.fr/super.updt/spr17 on port 1964 every time it loads. Unless it?s allowed access it fails to load. The privacy policy for this software at http://www.erightsoft.com/privacy.html fails to mention this at all. Personally, I don?t trust it.

Good job Shamus. I agree with you about not trusting it. I do have a few questions though. The link that you posted, that the software is trying to go to, seems to be a dead link. If the software is working even with the link being dead maybe all you have to do is change the link to someplace else. I have successfully done that with other software in the past. Have you tried that? Ny second question is that the link, even though it's dead, appears to be an update link. This could mean the software is trying to see if there are any updates available. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

I just checked with my friend who told me about the program. He ran the program without an internet connection and the only thing that happened was that he got a prompt asking if he wanted to check for an update. He answered no and the program continued and worked without any problems. This is strange.

Hmm... I just installed it onto a different PC and you?re right. On my P4/1.8 w/XP it refuses to load unless it gets net access. The other PC (AMD64 w/w2k) it loads even though the connection is blocked. Weird.

Yeah, the link above looks alot like an update link and probably is but I don?t like surprises.
