Cynthia
Is it a double layer disc you have inserted? If so - that model can't burn those discs. (It is however possible to rebuild it to a 2510 model).

Cynthia
There is a free way to get it to burn DL media - flash it with firmware for the Nec 2510 model. But this burner was released 2004 and I'm not sure I would trust it with double layer burning. I have the 2510 model and I never liked it. A good burner today doesn't cost very much. A nice burner could be a Pioneer 116 or 117 model. The Optiarc 720x model is also good.

Cynthia
Well, you could try to flash it with Nec 2510 firmware - if it works - it works. If not - you know it didn't work. http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_332-fil...19-20A.zip.html No idea where you live - but a burner costs about what you pay for 20-25 MacDonald Cheese burgers. Cynthia
In the .zip file the is a Readme_winUpdater.htm file. Read it first. Be aware that the flash could go south and the burner be useless (not very likely - but it can happen) Firmwareupdate ND-2510A (GEN) to Version 2.19 unit ND-2510A (GEN) on "K251GN90.exe" file No disc in the tray All other programs closed After the flash - restart the computer You could also post a thread over at CDFreaks and they should know exactly how you do - they know more about firmware/crossflashing for this model - before you start the firmware update.
