UDMA Mode 4 Issues

Hi!

I am facing these issues:

- First, when I started using ImgBurn on my new Win2k8SE (workstation), the Sony DVD Burner DRU-820A (upgraded to latest firmware) was not detected unless I ran with Administrator privileges. This is not a big problem though!

- I noticed that the Sony DVD Burner DRU-820A was reporting support for UDMA mode 4 but using UDMA mode 2 as I was using the 40 conductor IDE cable (the device is master on secondary IDE with no slave drive attached). I decided to use an 80 conductor IDE cable and sure enough the burner started using UDMA mode 4. However, now when I try to burn DVDs the device buffer behaves erratically and keeps going up and down from 80% to 2~3% causing the AWS burn speed to vary accordingly. This was not the case with UDMA mode 2 and the buffer remained filled up till the end of course.

(The HDD on primary IDE is UDMA mode 5)

So, is it that at slower speed the data rate is sustained whereas for the faster mode the data arrives in bursts! Can it be fixed because I would like to keep using UDMA mode 4??? Should I stop using AWS ???

By the way, all of the dvds burnt by the program (both using UDMA 2 and UDMA 4) are readable without any problems!

Below is a log of a DVD (cars by pixar) that I burnt:
