Dorttocs Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I have had a couple of DVD burners now, and they didnt seem to live that long. My recent burner was a Sony DRU-710A. It lasted about 1 year(right after the warranty expired ) and about 400 burns. Is that bout average? I now have an LG 4167B...hoping it will last a little longer. The prices are so good on new burners, that I dont get to bent out of shape when it comes to buying a new one.
spinningwheel Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 My NEC 1300 still works like it's charmed after 3 years....My Plex 716A crapped out after about 10 months and the replacement they sent isn't impressing me much better....... #39;(
Movie Junkie Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I have two Sony DRU-710A drives that I have been using since October 2004. I thought one of them was starting to go bad a few months ago but it wasn't. Both of them are still working fine.
polopony Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I have a Sony 510A my first ($304),still works great 3-4 yrs old an NEC2500 and an NEC 3500 all work well and combined with the right media make excellent burns
Jerseyguy Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 i have a pioneer dvr 106d first burner i ever got..i have thought about a new one but this one is still going strong...
Kenadjian Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 and about 400 burns. No, I wouldn't say this was "average". As the boys have already mentioned, we've had drives that have done 1000's of burns and still going strong. I think you were just unlucky with that one.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 NEC1100 - Still running now and its 3 years or so old NEC2510 - Still in use today, no problems - almost 2 years of use NEC4550 - Newer but no issues so far, couple of months old BenQ DW1655 - Newest drive, no probs whatsoever, probably upto 100+ burns now
dbminter Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Some here were just dying to wonder when I'd get around to replying to this... NEC 3500a - Still going strong after a year and a half. Sony DRU-500a - Still working, even though I don't use it anymore because it started behaving oddly on 4x Ritek, only writing to 2x where it had been writing 4x Sony DRU-700a - Piece of trash, died after 2 months Two IOMega LG Super dual format with DVD-RAM burners - still work, but, never did burn properly to media other drives had no problem with Panasonic LF-311s - still works, but, such a pain it's almost as if it NEVER worked right! Half a dozen LiteOn CD burners since 2000 - retired due to spotty behavior after about a year each.
