KasparP
I found a guy on craiglist who has both of these drives for 35 dollars Sony DRX710UL or LG GSA E40L Both are in good working condition. What should I get? What will be more reliable and last me longer?
Paladin77
I am using the second one. bought it new about a year or 2 ago. It working like a charm and is awesomely fast. I didn't burn much with it since I have like over 1 TB of storage space and I usually burn for backup and archiving but if you are asking me I recommend the second. Also I recommend you get DVD drives new. Some things don't cut it as 2nd hand. Edited September 13, 2009 by Paladin77
mmalves
Does it have to be external? If you get an internal drive you can replace your current burner with it. Have you looked here? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....mp;N=2010100005 This one is a good burner and the price seems OK: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827129043

mmalves
Get the LG one, it's newer than the $ony. It would be better if you could get a brand new one though: it has a better chance at burning the blanks you have.
KasparP
I got the Sony because seller said it was used less. Also the LG looked beat up. Also, the Sony has firewire capability, so I hooked it up via firewire to my computer and I'm getting blazing speeds out of this bad boy. It also burns on my crappy blanks! I'm 14 out of 14 right now on my new 20 pack of the blanks Ive been having trouble with. I would of gotten the LG but you posted the comment after I already left so I didnt see it. The LG also costs only 43 dollars new, while the Sony is in the 100 dollar range.
