How to burn the main film only to a DVD single layer DVD+RW Disc?

I am trying to copy a DVD movie to a single layer DVD+RW disc. It is too large to fit in a single layer disc. I actually only need to copy the main film. How can I remove commercials and special features from the disc? The reason to copy it to a DVD+RW disc is that I do not need to keep a permanent copy of the movie.
