Have been getting the dreaded blue screen shutdown after backing up data on my Dell Inspiron recently so decided to look for answers.

Syncback is the utility I use to backup, a great tool, and that suggested I need to update my sonic software. This I did and hey presto now I can't do anything with the drive.

So I've uninstalled all the sonic software and went looking for alternatives, which brings me here. I hope this is the right place.

In order to run a backup/sync to DVD RW the disc has to be formatted udf. The imgburn website says something about the software being compatible so I downloaded etc.

There's no problem in burning a file or folder to the disc, but the backup software can't get access. I think it's something to do with udf formatting.

Can anyone help?

thanks in advance

You want something that formats (as in 'prepares') a disc with an empty UDF file system so the OS can use it like a hdd - that's not what ImgBurn does when it talks about UDF.
