Hi.I would like to know how to copy a DVD DL Disk.

I have a 2003 Honda Accord (Japanese) with a navigation system which has a DVD DL navigation disk. I would like to create the exact copy of this DVD DL Navigation Disk (for backup).

I dont know whether this DVD DL is +R or -R, so I dont know whether to create a copy in +R or -R. Is there any way to know what type of disk this is? (+R or -R).

I read somewhere that -R would be compatible with more drives and so it is safer to create in -R rather than +R.

I have made a image from imgburn by just clicking "create image from disk" and now the image size is 7.69 GB. So my 1st question is regarding the "- +" format

I will now just burn the image to a new DVD + or - DL. So my 2nd question is : Will this method work? Is this the right method? will the navigation system pick this DVD up and read the maps, etc?

Thanks.

It's kinda impossible for us to give you a 100% accurate answer. My advice would be to just try both formats (DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL).

Yes, reading the disc to an image and then burning the image is how you 'copy' a disc.

lots of people have difficulties with nav discs with them being PTP and the copies being OTP

sorry but I dont get that...whats PTP and OTP?

Posted

from the info from your nav disc

Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)

writeable discs are OTP Opposote Track Path, meaning they write from the inside - out on the one layer, and from the outside - in on the other layer

So if i select "write image file to disk" and select the dvd navigation image, will imgburn record in PTP or OTP? if in OTP then whats the method to change the setting so that it records in PTP? if it cant be changed then whats the solution so that my backup copy of navigation dvd works in the navigation system?

and OTP wont work in the navigation system?

Thanks.

You can't burn in PTP mode, the discs simply don't exist. All DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media is OTP.

Although your source is PTP, at least L0 is greater in size than L1. If it wasn't (which is common on PTP discs), it would be impossible to burn it with the layer break at the same position as the original.

Just try it! Maybe it will, maybe it won't. You're the only one that can answer that question.

So if the PTP disks dont exist, then how come the original dvd navigation disk is PTP?

The original DVD is pressed and, as such, it can be PTP or OTP.

Ever crossed your mind that they use PTP as a poor man's version of copy protection? Since there's no PTP media on the market, you can't make a perfect copy of the original disc :pirate2:

I changed the title of the navigation disk iso image from something like "BTM070S55A" to "Accord navigation Disk". Does that make any difference?

Secondly:

which speed should i select when burning? I bought verbitam dvd +R DL 8x . I need to run this on a 03/04 accord.

Thanks.

If you want an accurate (and therefore most likely to work) backup, you shouldn't change anything. I'd have thought that would be pretty obvious?

Burn at whatever speed your drive produces the best quality burns at. Every drive is different and we don't try them all - nor do we remember them all! You realise we're only human yeah?!

Take your unmodified image and burn+verify it. If that all goes ok and it doesn't work then it's probably never going to.

i read in a forum that i should change the "book type" to "dvd rom" . is it possible? and how do i do this?

and i have never burned a dvd before. so should i select 2x , 2.4x or 4 x? (i dont wanna burn at 8x as i heard it will probably produce errors)

ImgBurn changes the booktype automatically on TSSTcorp drives (which is what you have), you don't need to do anything.

What blanks do you have?

Put one in the drive and go into Write mode.

Copy + paste the disc info from the panel on the right again please.

You can see from that line your drive supports those discs at 3x, 4x and 6x.

Start with 4x and if that doesn't work, try the remaining 2 options.

It's probably 20 - 30 mins at 4x.
