twinillusion Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Trying to burn a .mkv file to a dual layer dvd for backup purposes. Everything starts off great and then at 99% it fails. Here is the log: Also, I was having a number of issues before to the point where it wouldn't even begin writing on the disc (firmware problem) i did the following to fix them: Updated the firmware on the DVD Burner (NEC 3500AG from 2.98 to 2.1B) Fixed the DMA issues by deleting the master and slave checksum values and rebooting I'm using Philips brand DVD+R DL's btw (and yes i've read all of the verbatim glorification threads, but i purchased this before doing so) Personally, Philips and Verbatim (atleast in the DVD+R single layer days) were both top tier brands. I burned all of my Wii games using both brands and neither of them gave me a problem (unlike other brands). ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 - Log ; Thursday, 15 October 2009, 17:03:46 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 16:22:51 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! spinningwheel Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Yup; whether you believe in your media or not, whether you believe in our glorification threads or not, your media is crap. The Philips discs that you have are made by CMC, the single worst producer of media since Prinko dropped from the major producer scene. Burned a 360 game (on the same CMC MAG-D02-00) and it worked perfectly on the first try. Looks like it wasn't my "crap media" after all.
mmalves Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 If you're going to ignore our advice then why did you come here asking for help? Those blanks must be really top quality for needing a special burner in order to work. I'm sure you didn't buy them because they were the cheapest. Silly us for using Verbatim blanks that work with any of our burners
twinillusion Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 If you're going to ignore our advice then why did you come here asking for help? Those blanks must be really top quality for needing a special burner in order to work. I'm sure you didn't buy them because they were the cheapest. Silly us for using Verbatim blanks that work with any of our burners because i tried a verbatim disc and still got the same error. so CLEARLY the problem wasn't the media, it was the burner itself. out of all of the posts i've read so far the majority of your (and by your i mean the support group in general) responses are 'your media is garbage' if someone uses something other than verbatim instead of actually divulging some thought into the situation. LIGHTNING UK seems to be the only consistent individual giving any REAL support.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Look, you've a pretty old drive there and the first thing anyone would recommend is that you try some of the 'original' DL disc - and by that I mean the Verbatim ones. The MKM-001-00 dye has been around the longest and has *by far* the best support by manufacturers/firmware engineers. So where newer dyes may fail in a drive, the old faithful MKM-001-00 dye normally works just fine and that's why we recommend it and will continue to recommend it until such a time when that's no longer true. Now if you'd provided us a with a log where the drive was failing to burn that dye, you'd have obviously gotten a different response. We can only assist you based on the information your provide us with. So if we give you a bad answer it's probably because you gave us bad info. What I'd do now (assuming you've tried and failed to burn some MKM-001-00 discs) is try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc and then burn another one. If it still doesn't work, retire your drive and buy a new one. The one thing you should never do is moan at the people trying to help you. W 16:23:18 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x), Got: 5,540 KB/s (4x) Why is that funny? Your drive doesn't support 2.4x on that dye. I 16:23:18 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D02-00) (Speeds: 4x)
