Your firmware ('A106') dates back to 2006 and that dye ('RITEK-S04-66') wasn't even invented then.

2 choices really... get some old school MKM-001-00 dye discs (Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL) or get a new drive.

Thanks UK I'll give verbatim a try oh BTW I'm using memorex

They were out of verbatim.

Also do you know what's the latest update for my drive?

Thanks again!

A106 is the latest - it's an old drive and they give up making new firmware releases pretty quickly these days, they expect you to buy a new model drive.

Memorex is just a brand name. They could be using any dye really (except for the decent MKM one that Verbatim use). That particular spindle just happens to be using the RITEK-S04-66 one.
