Update your burner's firmware (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished) and try again. You know that you only need to format it once, right? After that just overwrite the disc

Then you'll need to try with other rewritables (Verbatim highly recommended) until you find one that your burner likes.

 

You might be able to use the disc you have with a newer burner
