My first time burning a backup, got fed up my disc's being scratched all the time. I updated the firmware of my DVD drive. I sprayed it with a can of compressed air as well. Don't have a "cdrom cleaner". Can anyone help?

Media being used: Memorex 8x DVD+R DL (I know, I know, but I didn't have the money for Verbatims, no excuse)

Thank you in advance guys, I hope someone has a suggestion or a fix.

2x doesn't exist as a supported speed so your drive has been using 4x.

The drive also says it supports 6x and 8x on that media so try both of those too.

Compressed air won't clean the lense, it needs some sort of liquid on it really. You always have the option of buying a cleaning disc!

If the drive still doesn't like those discs then you have 2 options:

1. Buy discs the drive does like.

2. Buy a drive that likes those discs.

Thank you Lightning UK!

I will see if I can find a cleaning disc. If I can find one.

I also heard that burning backups for your xbox requires a slower speed for burning. 4x being the ultimate max, and anything higher, just wont work. I have tried 4x, and even 8x, just for giggles, and got to around 56% and it died. I guess maybe i'll have to see about shelling out some money for a new drive or new discs.

Also, i thought a cleaning disc was just one of those things with alittle brush on it, that spins around, not liquid. How would I go about using "liquid".

Thanks in advance

Not true. It's the burn speed that gives the best quality of the burn that is the one to use.

Yah I've tried 8x. That's why I wasn't completely sold on trying anything else. But with that being said. We can safely say that:

IF YOU WANNA MAKE BACKUPS FOR YOUR XBOX 360.

Do NOT... I repeat. DO NOT buy cheap Media like Memorex, I wasted 10 bucks on a 5 pack. All 5 were coasters.

Last night I ordered a 20pack of Verbatim dvd's, and will update this thread with my findings. I know this is nothing new, but take it from a guy who though the could get away with buying cheaper media, it's just not worth it, at all.

Btw, I went to newegg.com , free shipping, and a 6 dollar mail in rebate for all you North American folks. It will come out to be 19.99 for a 20pack.

Thanks again Lightning UK, you're a standup!
