kaity Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Hi everyone, I'm new to ImgBurn and this is my first post. My question is when I set my write speed to 4x, it always burn at speeds up to 6.1x. How can I lower the speed? Thanks.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Its not an NEC burner you have there is it kaity ? Please could you also post a copy of the ImgBurn log in your next post ? Thanks
kaity Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 Hi, it's a Sony DRU-800A. I tried burning at 2.4x and it still burned at 6.1x. This doesn't happen with Nero. lfcrule1972 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Yeah polo is right - no speeds lower than 6x are supported with that firmware on the drive. 6x shouldn't give you any quality issues with decent media anyway
kaity Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 Thanks. I never knew there was a minimum speed limitation. I think I do have the latest firmware though (KY06). It was released in November.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I 01:47:46 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MCC-004-00) (Speeds: 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x) You can see here that your drive is reporting that it can burn these discs at 6x, 8x, 12x & 16x only. For whatever reason the firmware does not support burning below that speed
l8nights Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Is there a way of letting imgburn only give those options (supported speeds) for user's to choose from ie greyed out til media is identified then given choices determined by media/drive?? btw I have just dl'ed v.1.3.0.0 and haven't really gotten the chance to tool around yet so if it's already available. ignore the imbicile
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Thanks. I never knew there was a minimum speed limitation. I think I do have the latest firmware though (KY06). It was released in November. It?s not just the drive. The media tells the drive what speeds it supports. Use different media and I?m sure you?ll see a variation in supported speeds. e.g. If you placed some Ritek G04s in your drive, supported speeds would likely be 1x , 2x and 4x.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Is there a way of letting imgburn only give those options (supported speeds)for user's to choose from ie greyed out til media is identified then given choices determined by media/drive?? Honestly? I don?t see the point even though (from a non-programmers point of view) it would be do-able by grabbing the info from the inserted media and greying out non-supported speeds. Not much would be gained for alot of work and it, in my opinion, would be just something else to go pear shaped. Besides, there?s not much point buying hardware and media capable of burning at 12x or 16x and throttling it to 4x. Not these days. In a nutshell, if you have a decent drive with good firmware and good quality media, burning at high speed isn?t a problem.
