How would I go about finding out what dye a disc uses. I have used a lot of different Discs. Some great some just plain lousy. What I need to find out is how can I tell what dye a disc has on it. I've never seen this information on the disc or on the package . Does Imageburn have this information in the log or anywhere else?

Because I still have 5 different brands of discs here at home that I have to use up. ( I just bought a 100 lot spindle of single layer DVD+R's Verbatim and 2 20 packs of double layer 2.4 Verbatim's. ) So how can I get the information I need?

Thank you

If you insert the disc and select Write mode and look in the right panel window - you'll see it. It's also in the log.

It's not on the package. Some nice mail ordering companies list it on the sales info.

Can you please tell me the type of dye used as these discs have been pretty good. I've yet to get a bad one despite the fact they weren't that expensive, which is surprising as I usually lose between 4 and 8 single layer discs per 100 spindle.

It's the same thing.

MID/Disc ID/Manufacturer ID/dye are just different ways of saying the same thing.

The only other one is the 'brand name'.

i.e. you buy maxell branded discs and get the ritek MID/Disc ID/Manufacturer ID/dye.

Here is the link for the most comprehensive correlation between "Brand" name and Media ID or MID or manufacturer's ID. Also useful on knowing good discs from crap ones. Although its like a universal fact that Verbatims (singapore ones) and Taiyo Yuden discs (Made in Japan and isn't made elsewhere if it says it is its counterfeit) are the best discs out there in both quality and compatibility with drives old and new
