Rich86 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I frequently run into the problem of Imgburn hanging up once "Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices..." begins. It will not complete and usually refuses to cancel out the program even via Task Manager (Windows XP/sp3). Another older program that used to be available from LighteningUK also exhibits this behavior sometimes. If I force a reboot and launch Imgburn again - it usually proceeds just fine. Other programs that use my optical drives/burners do not exhibit this problem. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.
mmalves Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Make sure you're using the latest ImgBurn version and post your Filter Driver Load Order (look in ImgBurn's Tools menu). There's also this post from the FAQ that you can follow in order to provide us with more information about the problem.

There's also this post from the FAQ that you can follow in order to provide us with more information about the problem. Thanks. I am running v.2500. I just found and read that FAQ post. The only "older" drive on the system is a Plextor Plexwriter Premium. Think that is the issue? It's a bit strange since the problem does not happen all the time - maybe 50% of the time I launch Imgburn to use. If I reboot the system - then Imgburn will launch and get past this issue with no problems 99% of the time. If I execute the debug mode registry update, should I then disable it afterwards? How? Thanks - I really value Imgburn as it has been the best and most reliable burner for me until this problem began occurring. ----------------------------- Update: Here's the filter driver load order - and the program did not hang up on the device search this time . . . =============================================== Filter Driver Load Order - ImgBurn v2.5.0.0 =============================================== Upper Device Filter: redbook Upper Class Filter: [None Found] Device: CD/DVD-ROM Device Lower Class Filter: DLACDBHM Lower Class Filter: ElbyDelay Lower Class Filter: DRVMCDB Lower Class Filter: ElbyCDFL Lower Class Filter: PxHelp20 Lower Device Filter: imapi Filter Name: redbook File Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys File Version: 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2108) File Description: Redbook Audio Filter Driver Product Name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Product Version: 5.1.2600.5512 Company Name: Microsoft Corporation Copyright: © Microsoft Corporation. mmalves Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 That's a lot of filter drivers and they could be causing this problem. If I were you I'd remove all of them (redbook and imapi can't be removed but they're part of windows so no problem there) to see if it would solve the problem. As for the debug mode it's automatically disabled after the first use so you don't need to worry about it.
