Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Usually when I start the computer i give it a good half hour to set up and do whatever it needs to before i do a burn. then the first burn goes fine. the second one then frigs up.
Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 So i tried again. Rebooted the computer, closed the wireless connection and xoftspy. First disc burned fine. Second one "waiting for buffers to recover"... and it's only burned 2% before starting that .....

Paladin77 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Also Try Disabling the Windows Vista indexing service on your HDD. It was found to cause numerous problems while burning. 1. Click on Start button, then select Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools, and double click on Services applet.Alternatively, simply type “Services” (without quotes) in Start Search box. 2. If User Account Control asks for permission, click Continue. 3. Locate an service named Windows Search. Right click on Windows Search, and then select Properties on contextual menu. 4. Click on Stop button to stop the indexing service immediately. 5. On the Startup Type dropdown box, select Disabled. 6. Click on OK button.

mmalves Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 The log of those burns with buffer underruns would be useful too.

Is it use full to turn it back on when i'm NOT burning?
Paladin77 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Well it simply makes searching for stuff at your HDD faster by creating indices so if you have a large HDD say 500+ GB full of videos photos and stuff like that it would come in handy when you dunno where you put your stuff. Otherwise its safe to keep it turned off (it even speeds up windows by not keeping HDD and CPU in use).

Otherwise its safe to keep it turned off (it even speeds up windows by not keeping HDD and CPU in use). my hard drive is only a 320G, don't use it for much other than my personal movie usage. and in that case i know where exact i put things. nothing else. so i'll try turning it off. and let you know. i'll post my log as well. this is for the whole day so far. i usallly quite the disc whe the buffer message comes up cuz i dont have much time to spare waitinng an hour for a disc. i ratehr kill the disc and save time. ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 - Log ; Friday, 04 December 2009, 11:30:49 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 11:14:19 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Okay, i've tried the disabling of the Windows Search. trying a burn now. we'll see what happens.
mmalves Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Do you still have the VIDEO_TS folder from which you created that ISO image? You can burn the disc directly from that (no need to create an ISO image before burning). There's the possibility that the ISO image is fragmented all over your HDD and this could be killing the transfer rate.
Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 No I do not have the VIDEO_TS folder any more. Now that i turned off the Windows Search, i can get to burns before the "waiting for buffer" message. Better, but still not good.
Paladin77 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Well I guess we are on the right track. Try Defragmenting your HDD (especially your system drive). Also consider removing the SPTD drive (i.e DT or alchol 120%) there are better alternatives than those. Also try to stop services that are eating up your system resources: 1. Click start, Type "MSCONFIG" 2. Click on the Services tab 3. Check Hide all Microsoft services radio. 4. Disable services that u do not need (note some services are beneficial like Antivirus for example).
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Can you upload this file for us please? I 11:03:21 Graph Data File: C:\Users\Michelle\AppData\Roaming\ImgBurn\Graph Data Files\Optiarc_DVDRWBD_BC-5600S_10AB_FRIDAY-DECEMBER-04-2009_10-30_AM_CMC_MAG-M01-00_4x.ibg or at least open it yourself (use burnplot if you don't pay for dvdinfopro), take a screenshot and then upload that. It might be handy to see cpu usage during the burn. Have you defragged your drive recently? You can use a tool called 'Defraggler' as an alternative to the one built into windows.
Mich_v_g Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Hi again, been a few days i know, but it was working just fine... until now. okay,so how do i upload what you're asking for?
Mich_v_g Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Okay, i'm doing a quick defrag and will probably do a full one later when i don't need to use the computer.
Mich_v_g Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 okayy here's the screenshot. i managed to do it. i think.
Mich_v_g Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 okay, did a quick defrag. then restarted the computer and it is STILL doing it. Only this time, it is doing it on my first burn after a restart. Usually iget away scot free with that one.
Mich_v_g Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 I think i'm seriously going crazy.... I'm wondering if any of you brilliant people know ANYTHING about vista, because i think this might be where my problem is. Sorry for dumping my problems on you but i'm stuck, totally stuck. everything takes SO long to do in vista it seems. i click an app to open it, and it takes at least 30 seconds, if not longer, to open. Internet explorer takes ages to load once the screen is open. and often is going so slow it says "not responding". it will eventually respond once i wait a while. closing the screen takes a good 30 seconds as well. if i open "my computer" it will take a while before it shows any icons i know i should be patient, but this is rediculous. please tell me what to do.... this computer is going to end up on a time out in the corner soon.
Paladin77 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) I was using windows Vista before upgrading to 7. Before someone thinks I will start to bash: it was running smoothly (I only chose to upgrade since I got my licensed Windows 7 copy anyway). I will tell you the most common causes that causes Vista to crawl: 1. Outdated or buggy drivers (Most common cause for systems sluggishness and BSODs): Try to find the latest drivers for your hardware profile. Microsoft do have ONLY DEFAULT drivers for hardware but any customizations is the job of your PC or hardware vendor. Check their respective Web Resources. 2. Unnecessary running services: Remember when I told you to disable windows search indexing service. Well there are many other services that might be running in the background and slowing your computer down. you have to find them and disable them or use some optimizing utility to do it for you. 3. GARBAGE: yeah you heard me, junk files, obsolete programs, cluttered registry all of those can bottleneck your system making it run sluggishly. There are many freeware and shareware cleanup and optimizing utilities you can use if you look. If you wish to know my recommendation PM me and I shall give them to you. 4. Last but not the least and one I hope you don't have is a FAULTY hardware like a Faulty RAM chip (common cause I see around) or HDD. Run diagnostics tests (like Windows Memory diagnostic test for RAM) on your RAM, HDD and see if it comes up with any errors. IF not then its one of the above. Hope it Helps Regards Paladin77 Edited December 9, 2009 by Paladin77
