Image/Photo application recommendations

I need an image/photo application for my computer.

I just want a general purpose program for viewing and editing.

I am wondering what others have found to be good so I can narrow my search.

Isn't there one in the free Windows Live package? Not sure how much you want to "edit".

I like FastStone Image Viewer as an everyday image viewer and it has many handy editing functions available too. I prefer it to the likes of IrfanView, XnView, Picasa, etc but that's just me, feel free to try them also.

 

If you want to be able to organise your photos into albums then maybe Google Picasa or Windows Live Photo Gallery would be more to your liking.
