All firmware is up to date, I tried disabling IMAPI, burning on all speeds and it burns standard DVD+R just fine. Bought a bunch of these Memorex because a friend uses them for the same purpose. Thanks for the suggestions, have already removed the drive and wiped the lens manually. Also, this is for Xbox 360 backups so even if burning at faster speeds works, it doesn't really help me. Everything I've ever read about backing them up just saying to burn at 2x. I'll give that a try, as well as borrowing another burner to try on that. The old Toshiba drive I borrowed wouldn't even read the disks. At 6x the burn completed but failed during verify, the game would boot up to the menu but then couldn't read it.
